Attems (1937) synonymized Jonespeltis splendidus Verhoeff, 1936, from Kovalam, India (Verhoeff 1936) with A. anthracinus, from Rangoon, Myanmar, without justification. But Jeekel (1965a) resurrected both to their full- species statuses. Several studies on the biology and ecology of Jonespeltis splendidus had been accomplished in India (Bano et al. 1976; Bano and Krishnamoorthy 1977, 1978, 1979, 1981a, 1981b, 1985; Bano 1990, 1992, 1993, 1996a). Bano (1996b), in a summary of the paradoxosomatid fauna of India, followed Attems (1937) and considered Jonespeltis splendidus as a junior synonym of Anoplodesmus anthracinus. This provided the first formal record of A. anthracinus from India. There is no doubt that Anoplodesmus is a subjective senior synonym of Jonespeltis Verhoeff, 1936 (e.g. Nguyen and Sierwald 2013), but the status of splendidus vs. anthracinus remains dubious (e.g. Golovatch and Wesener 2016). For the time being, we consider A. anthracinus as a species found in Myanmar, as well as Malaysia and Sri Lanka (Golovatch and Stoev 2013).
