Taxonomy The name Julus is now restricted to a genus in the Julidae (Diplopoda, Helminthomorpha, Julida). Linne (Linnaeus) used the genus Julus for species which we now place in widely different myriapod groups. The correct name for the species originally known as Julus lagurus is Polyxenus lagurus in the Polyxenidae (Diplopoda, Penicillata, Polyxenida)and for Julus araneoides it is Scutigera coleoptrata (Chilopoda, Scutigeromorpha, Scutigeridae). [details]
