he genus ranges from northern Mexico (Nuevo León) to Costa Rica. Some South American species from Colombia and Venezuela have been placed in Amplinus (Hoffman, 1954; Jeekel, 1963): A. abstrusus(Karsch, 1881); A. ater (Peters, 1864); A. beebi(Chamberlin, 1950); A. cylindroides (Chamberlin, 1923). The generic status of these species needs to be revised (Hoffman, 1999).
