One of the most abundant of European Diplopoda. This is a very variable species, over 80 forms having been described. The (sub)species groups and colour pattern variations in Glomeris make the taxonomy of the genus complicated and difficult to follow. Parapatric with the more western G. intermedia, which was formerly considered to be a subspecies of hexasticha but demonstrated not to be so by Hoess et al. (1997).
