as "Rhachidesminae," uses it as a 'group name for a number of genera'.... including the preoccupied genus name Rachis de Saussure, 1859. Genus name Rachis was replaced with Rhachodesmus by Cook, 1895. P. Sierwald comment: Carl (1903: 553-555) used a subfamily name “Rhachidesminae” for a listed group of genera, none of which can have served as the stem for the family group name. He included Rhachis (an incorrect subsequent spelling or unjustified emendation of Rachis De Saussure, 1859 [non Rachis Albers, 1850; Mollusca]). He might have known of the replacement name Rhachodesmus Cook, 1895 for Rachis De Saussure, 1859, but did not mention it and treated “Rhachis” as valid. Rhachidesminae Carl, 1903 is a nomen nudum.
