Attems (1899) description was based on specimens from northwestern Brazil, near the borders with Peru and Colombia, that probably correspond to a different species (Pocock 1909; Hoffman 1960). Pocock (1909) suggested affinities with Nyssodesmus limonensis (Attems, 1899). Hoffman (1999) suggested it could be a species of Barydesmus. Currently there are no verified records of Platyrhacidae in Mexico (Hoffman 1999; Bueno-Villegas et al. 2004).
