Attems's (1899) description was based on the type specimens of Barydesmus broelemanni (Attems, 1914). According to Loomis (1968) a possible synonym of Nyssodesmus montivagus. Hoffman (1999) suggested it could be a species of Barydesmus. Currently there are no verified records of Platyrhacidae in Mexico (Hoffman 1999; Bueno-Villegas et al. 2004).
